Taapsee Pannu’s upcoming courtroom drama film Mulk’s trailer was out a few days ago and it has received positive reviews. The film Mulk will see Taapsee play the role of a defence lawyer. Taapsee opens up about why she chose to work in the film and she said, “It is very disturbing to see how one religion specifically, always seems to be targeted. Especially because of acts being performed by cowards who belong to the religion. I am so hurt and angry and disturbed by it all. The most key people who work with me, for me to help my career and streamline it all, from my manager, my driver, my PR are all Muslims and it is frustrating to see how the perception surrounding them. One cannot turn a blind eye to these things. So working for Anubhav Sir’s film was a way to vent my anger and get a chance to talk about it.”
Mulk is based on one of the most controversial topics not just in India—Islamophobia. An issue as sensitive and controversial as this, a lot of people were wary about the way it would be received by the audience. However, Taapsee being the fiery woman she is, wanted things to change and therefore decided to act in the film. She wanted to be the voice for a cause that not everyone wants to be associated with. In order to get the point of view of Muslims who are ostracised as a whole due to Islamic terrorist activities, the Naam Shabana actress wanted to work in a film that would resonate in the minds of the audience in general.
Taapsee is currently shooting for Sujoy Ghosh’s thriller Badla in Scotland and it also stars Amitabh Bachchan. The Pink actress has been shooting for films back to back and she has two films that will be out for release within three weeks of each other. Soorma which released today will see Taapsee essay the role of Harpreet Kaur, an Indian field hockey player, opposite Diljit Dosanjh’s character Sandeep Singh.
