‘Sushma ji Betrayed Jawans on Border,’ Tweets Rahul Gandhi on Reports of China’s Construction Work in Doklam

New Delhi, Aug 2: The Congress continued its attack on the Government over its alleged subservience to China despite reports of construction work in Doklam and now even Shangskam Valley. Taking to Twitter, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “Amazing how a lady like Sushma ji has buckled and prostrated herself in front of Chinese power. Absolute subservience to the leader means our brave jawan has been betrayed on the border.” (Also read: China Resumes Road-building in Doklam)

Gandhi was referring to a PTI story in Outlook magazine that alleged that while China had resumed activity in Doklam, neither India nor Bhutan had tried to dissuade it. US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice G Wells told US lawmakers during a Congressional hearing, “I would assess that India is vigorously defending its northern borders and this is a subject of concern to India.

While the Centre has denied these reports, now fresh ones have emerged claiming that China is building a road in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as well. Construction work has been on since the Doklam crisis, said the report. Sources said construction was on in an “all-weather road” in Shaksgam which lies north of Siachen and China has finished around 75 km of the 10 mt-wide road.

India and China were locked in a 73-day-long standoff in Doklam from June 16 last year after the Indian side stopped the building of a road in the disputed tri-junction by the Chinese Army.
