New Delhi, August 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dialled Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray and thanked him for supporting NDA candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh, who was elected as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman on Thursday. As per a report, the courtesy call between the two leaders lasted a few minutes.
Earlier on August 7, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief had also called Thackeray and sought support for JD(U) leader Harivansh.
Notably, the Shiv Sena and BJP have been at loggerheads over slew of issues. A few days back, the BJP’s disgruntled ally via its mouthpiece Saamna had attacked the Modi-led Centre over Aadhaar security issue, saying that for all its tall claims about how secure Aadhaar cards were, the NDA stands exposed. The editorial had pointed out how French hacker Elliot Alderson had laid bare the fact that that the data submitted to the Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI) is not secure. The two allies had also fought the by-polls separately in Maharashtra’s Palghar Lok Sabha constituency. After its defeat, the Sena had refereed BJP as its “biggest political enemy”. Earlier this year, the Shiv Sena has also announced that it will contest solo in the forthcoming 2019 Lok Sabha polls. However, the BJP Chief exuded confidence and had said that they (Sena and BJP) would “certainly fight Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections together”
