#MeToo: BJP Removes Uttarakhand General Secretary Over Sexual Harassment Charges

DEHRADUN — The ruling BJP on Thursday confirmed the removal of Uttarakhand leader Sanjay Kumar, who was embroiled in a sexual harassment controversy, from the post of general secretary (organisation).

“Kumar had written to the party’s central leadership, seeking to be removed from the post and his request has been accepted,” pradesh BJP president Ajay Bhatt told reporters.

Last week, a BJP worker had accused Kumar of sexually harassing her, causing much embarrassment to the party.

Buzz about the senior leader’s removal from the post had been doing the rounds since 3 November but party leaders were tight-lipped about it.

Hindi daily Amar Ujala last week published a report in which the woman alleged that Kumar had sexually exploited her for years and that BJP leaders had ignored her complaints.

Two days after the report, the BJP leadership allegedly asked Kumar to stop performing all party-related work.
