New Delhi: The Congress released the fourth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 on Saturday. A total of 27 candidates have been announced _ 12 from Kerala, seven from Uttar Pradesh, five from Chhattisgarh, two from Arunachal Pradesh and one from Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Shashi Tharoor will contest from Thiruvananthapuram constituency while former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki will contest from Arunachal West constituency.
On Friday, the party had released its third list of 18 candidates. Of those, five are in Assam, eight in Telangana, two in Meghalaya and one each in Nagaland, Sikkim, and UP. Sushmita Dev will contest from Silchar, G Gogoi will contest from Kaliabor, Mukul Sangma will contest from Tura and Tanuj Punia from Barabanki.
The other candidates whose names came in the third list are- Swarup Das (Karimganj), Sushanta Borgohain (Jorhat), Paban Singh Ghatowar (Dibrugarh), Vincent Phala (Shillong, Meghalaya), K L Chishi (Nagaland) and Bharat Basnett (Sikkim).
From Telangana, there are Ramesh Rathod (Adilabad), A Chandra Sekhar (Peddapalle), Ponnam Prabhakar (Karimnagar), K Madan Mohan Rao (Zahirabad), Gali Anil Kumar (Medak), A Revanth Reddy (Malkajgiri), Konda Vishweshwar Reddy (Chevella) and Porika Balram Naik (Mahbubabad).
The Congress released its first list of candidates for the upcoming polls on March 7. Names of 15 candidates were announced by the party. The names of 11 candidates from Uttar Pradesh and four from Gujarat were decided at a meeting of the Congress’s central election committee chaired by Rahul Gandhi on an earlier occasion. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Rahul Gandhi will contest the polls from Rae Bareli and Amethi, respectively.
On the other hand, the party has fielded former union ministers Salman Khurshid, Jitin Prasad and RPN Singh from their traditional seats of Farrukhabad, Dhaurahra and Kushi Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, respectively. Meanwhile, former UP Congress chief Nirmal Khatri will contest from Faizabad. On March 13, the party had released its second list of candidates in which it announced names of 16 candidates from Uttar Pradesh and five from Maharashtra.
