The Australian cricket team defeated India in the One Day International (ODI) series at their home soil by 3-2 for the first time in over a decade. The new-look Aussies clinched a 35-run victory in the fifth match at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday. Battling the lack of experience, rotation of squad, and alien conditions, the young visiting side produced an inspirational comeback after losing the opening two games to defeat the Men in Blue in their own backyard in both the T20I and ODI series.
After winning the toss on a slow-looking surface, the Aaron Finch-led side put on a fine show following an early derailment. The highlight of the match was Usman Khawaja’s second ODI century, with the first one as well coming against India in the same series. The 34-run stand for the 8th wicket between Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson fostered the Aussies to 272/9 and that partnership eventually panned out as a match-winning display.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Australia’s victory :
It is a wonderful achievement by Australia to come back from 0-2 down to win a series. The two teams started from either end of the results spectrum, India on a high and Australia in the dumps, and Australia gained more from this series.

After all this India aren’t any closer to picking their team for the WC. Not too many gains from this series but for maybe Vijay Shankar #INDvAUS

In the end, India ended up losing 5 of the 7 games on Australia’s tour to India. That’s without Smith, Warner and Starc. And India aren’t closer to nailing the fifteen for the World Cup either. #IndvAus

This is India’s first bilateral ODI series defeat at home after winning six consecutive bilateral ODI series at home.

Delhi crowd chanting “Rishabh” is a slap on Mohali crowd(Shameless creatures). Kohli urging crowd to chant “Rishabh” shows how he fills confidence in youngsters , want them to do good badly- Great signs of a great captain. #ViratKohli #INDvsAUS

This is Incredible from Australia. To come back from 12-2 and chase down 359 with as much ease as swatting flies, you’ve got to hand it to them. But what about Indian catching? Death bowling? #IndvsAus
