New Delhi: Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘burn me alive’ statement, Congress leader and former Karnataka Minister TB Jayachandra said that the time has come to implement the former’s remark, which was made during demonetisation.
“Prime Minister Modi had said (during demonetisation) that ‘give me 15 days or you can burn me alive.’ Now the time has come to do exactly that. If he has any self-respect, then he should quit and go,” the Congress leader said. He also asked PM Modi to quit the post, if he has any self-respect. The Congress leader made the statement while taking part in a protest marking the second anniversary of demonetisation.
Condemning Jayachandra’s statement, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Karnataka unit president BS Yeddyurappa said,”This is absolutely an outrageous statement by any standard and by any parameter.”
Earlier in 2016, Prime Minister Modi turned emotional during a speech in Goa when he appealed to the people to give him 50 days to end their hardship they had been facing following demonetisation decision. “We started Jan Dhan accounts. When I came up with this scheme, I was mocked in Parliament… Even if you burn Modi alive, Modi does not get scared,” he had reportedly said.
On Friday, the grand old party had alleged that demonetisation was a “scam” to convert black money to white and asked the BJP to declare who is responsible for the “economic loss” caused by the Modi government’s move. Party President Rahul Gandhi while addressing a rally in poll- bound Chhattisgarh had also questioned the BJP government on why no black money-holder was seen in the queues during demonetisation.
“All of you were standing in long queues during #Demonetisation but not one black money-holder was seen. Also, Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, Lalit Modi, and Mehul Choksi ran away from the country with your money,” the Congress had said.
