Congress Releases Third List of 18 Candidates, Five in Assam, Eight in Telangana



New Delhi: For the coming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress on Friday released its third list of 18 candidates. Of this, five are in Assam, eight in Telangana, two in Meghalaya and one each in Nagaland, Sikkim and UP.

Sushmita Dev would contest from Silchar, G Gogoi to contest from Kaliabor, Mukul Sangma to contest from Tura and Tanuj Punia from Barabanki.

Apart from Dev and Gogoi in Assam, the other candidates are: Swarup Das (Karimganj), Sushanta Borgohain (Jorhat) and Paban Singh Ghatowar (Dibrugarh).

The other candidate names which came out in the third list are those of Vincent Phala (Shillong, Meghalaya), K L Chishi (Nagaland) and Bharat Basnett (Sikkim).

From Telangana, there are Ramesh Rathod (Adilabad), A Chandra Sekhar (Peddapalle), Ponnam Prabhakar (Karimnagar), K Madan Mohan Rao (Zahirabad), Gali Anil Kumar (Medak), A Revanth Reddy (Malkajgiri), Konda Vishweshwar Reddy (Chevella) and Porika Balram Naik (Mahbubabad).

On Wednesday, the party had released its second list of candidates in which it announced names of 16 candidates from Uttar Pradesh and five from Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to release its first list of 100 candidates on Saturday. If reports are to be believed, the central leadership of the BJP will announce the names of candidates after the party’s election committee meet, scheduled at 4 PM on March 16. The meeting is likely to be chaired by PM Narendra Modi at party headquarters in national capital. It will be attended by top party leaders.

According to the reports, the BJP is likely to announce its first list of Maharashtra candidates for the polls. Speaking to a news agency, a party leader had said that around 18 candidates will be announced in the first list. He added,”The party will contest 25 seats this time, one less than the last general election.”
