Alok Nath Files Re 1 Defamation Suit Against Tara Producer For Accusing Him of Rape, Demands a Written Apology

Alok Nath has filed a defamation suit against writer-director Vinta Nanda for accusing him of rape and has asked for a written apology and Re 1 as compensation.

On Saturday,  the couple, Alok Nath and his wife Ashu, filed a complaint in a local court seeking defamation proceedings to be initiated against Vinta.

The complaint filed by the couple read, “The complainants [Nath and Ashu] have on October 12 addressed a letter to the Amboli police seeking action under sections 499 [defamation] and 500 of the Indian Penal Code against Nanda”.

“We are, hence, seeking the court to pass necessary direction to the Amboli police station in-charge to take cognisance of their complaint and hold an inquiry,” the complaint read.

“The complainants have suffered grave and irreparable loss, harm and injury which could never be compensated in terms of money…….Without commenting on anything about her [Nanda], the fact remains that all such occasions, such as the #MeToo campaign, are being encashed by way of utilising the social media for the purpose of either gaining some name and fame or for the purpose of defaming the reputation of a person,” the complaint further read.

The complaint also mentioned that because of the “baseless allegations”, Ashu and Alok Nath are “terrorised” to even step out of their house since people are looking at them with a “different attitude”.

In the wake of the ongoing #MeToo movement, Nanda wrote a long Facebook post alleging that Alok Nath had misbehaved with the actress of 90s popular show, Tara, on the sets, and when she raised her voice against him, she was assaulted. She alleged that her drinks were mixed and later when she woke up the next morning, she was in pain and that’s how she realised she was raped by the actor. Her disturbing post read, “I was invited to a party to this man’s house, his wife, my best friend was out of town. As the evening flowed, my drinks were mixed and I began to feel strange. Then at around 2 am I left his house. I started to walk home on the empty streets although the distance to my own house was long. Midway I was accosted by this man who was driving his own car and he asked me to sit in it and said he would drop me home. I trusted him and sat in his car”.
